Established in 2006, Languages for Kids is an academic program that provides practice for speaking and listening while incorporating some reading and writing in a foreign language. Our goals are to introduce the children to different facets of the target language and culture, expand any existing knowledge, and increase their abilities in using the target language. We emphasize functional language use and cultural awareness. Our interactive and engaging learning environment and the small size of our groups ensures active learning and individualized attention.
We are currently offering classes in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Other languages can be added upon request.
Courses start at the beginning of MSU’s fall and spring semesters and meet once a week for an hour. The program is generally open to children ages 6-9. No previous knowledge of the target language is necessary and children of higher proficiency levels can be accommodated. Our classes are arranged by age and proficiency level of the children and concurrent sections are offered. For those kids who have been with us for a number of semesters, we are continuing our language classes beyond the age of 9, given that we have at least 5 children per section. Please refer to our Languages for Teens section for more information.

Over the past decade, there has been a rise in the number of children who have life-threatening food allergies. Our goal is to keep all children in a safe and inclusive environment, where accommodations are explored and implemented when safe. CLS adopted a No NUTS policy in 2016. Although we can not guarantee a nut free school, we make reasonable effort to purchase nut free products for our programs. CLS makes a reasonable effort to inform those who might bring food onto the school’s campus such as parents/guardians, teachers, and volunteers. CLS cannot guarantee a nut free campus.
