Timeline
2019/20 – CeLTA Labs Co-Design Project [discontinued in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic]
2021 (summer) – clearing room B-125 of all equipment to create a blank canvas
2021/22 – MSU and CeLTA Learning Community
2022 (late spring) – Development of Learning Space Fellowships for faculty, staff, and graduate students
2022 (fall) – first project engages with the space
2023 (spring) – more classes scheduled to make use of the evolving space

CeLTA has embarked on a multi-year, user-driven, collaborative and iterative process to re-envision our physical labs for the digital age of ubiquitous computing. While we started this in 2019, the pandemic certainly has made the search for resilient, accessible, welcoming, flexible, and innovative language learning spaces even more of a priority.

On this page we are chronicling our progress and will share ways for you to become involved.

Goals, Priorities, and Vision
Create excellent opportunities for research and praxis
Use a participatory, user-driven, and iterative process
Create a sense of belonging for all (also see MSU’s strategic plan)
Be a good steward of our resources by maximizing impact and usefulness while minimizing costs, natural resources, and energy usage
Put principles around diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and accessibly into practice in our processes and physical environment

Research Space
We envision offering possibilities that allow researchers to access and manipulate our language learning and teaching spaces. Here is what we will provide:
– priority access and guaranteed reservations of one or more rooms
– research support (IRB applications, consulting, etc.)
– possibility to manipulate the physical space
– video and audio recording support
– we are open to and encourage multiple research methodologies, including action research
– financial support through our CeLTA Fellowships Program
