Caitlin Cornell joins the Center for Language Teaching Advancement (CeLTA) as its new Assistant Director on June 1, 2020.
Caitlin earned her MA in Linguistics with a specialization in TESOL from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009. She taught for many years in various English programs in Chicago, and completed two U.S. State Department English Language Fellowships posted in Beirut, Lebanon.
She is currently earning a Ph.D. in Second Language Studies (SLS). Caitlin’s primary research interest is the experiences of disabled second language learners. Caitlin founded an “Applied Interdisciplinary Scholarship in SLA” student reading group, comprised of colleagues from SLS, Teacher Education, Human Development and Family Studies, CeLTA, and other programs. She also led an undergraduate reading group with her former students (pre-service K-12 language teachers) devoted to topics of accessible teaching in second language learning.
It is important to Caitlin that she makes time to serve the greater MSU community. In 2018 and 2019 she served on the planning committee of the Accessible Learning Conference. In the academic year 2019-2020 she served as a Graduate Student Representative on the College Inclusive Practices Committee.
